Hello my friends!
I have been waiting with baited breathe all day for the 60 Minutes’ interview with Mark Zuckerberg, the 26 year old CEO of Facebook to be made available online! I’ve just finished watching it and all I can say is “WOW”. Here is a summary of the interview and the changes coming down the line on Facebook.
As of tomorrow, the heart of Facebook, our profile pages will be upgraded. Instead our photos, posts, information page being laid out quite sporadic, our new profile page will be laid in way that encapsulates how we would like to be ‘viewed’ on Facebook. Our details will now be at the top of our profile page outlining the type of things we’d learn about each other if we meet ‘in real life’ like at a bar.
Under the bio will be our latest photos either posted by us or our friends. It’s like a running show reel of your life! You can now also list the important people in your life under your profile photo.
Another great inclusion is a history of your relationship with any of your Facebook friends. The new version of our personal profile does encourage us to reveal more about ourselves on Facebook. This of course, is your choice, you don’t have to share what you don’t want to. But please remember, whatever you share does leave a digital footprint and irrespective of whether you delete it later, it will be somewhere floating around in cyberspace. A good rule of thumb here is if you wouldn’t be proud of that ‘status update’ or ‘photo’ being shown on the nightly news then you shouldn’t pop it up on Facebook. What happens ‘on tour’ no longer stays ‘on tour’!!
Another great upgrade is the new ‘messages’ system that integrates emails, mobiles and instant messaging into one. Facebook call it the Ultimate Switch Board! Hmm sounds a lot like Facebook are trying to take on Google’s gmail market share to me! As I explain in my ‘How to Flirt and Convert on Facebook’ workshops the power of social engines (like Facebook) as opposed to just standard search engines (like Google) where you get not just what you’re searching for but you also get the all important opinions of others on the search results!

Don’t stress about learning all about Facebook’s new features. They will also be launching a tutorial with the new layout and you also have the option of staying with your old profile for a limited time before jumping across to the new one. I am also planning on running a webinar myself to showcase and explain all the new features and changes to my peeps!
If you’d like to learn about the ‘man’ behind Facebook, here is part 2 of the 60 Minutes interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyON42rZW2Y
I hope you enjoyed my post on the up and coming changes to Facebook. Once you’ve started using the new layout, drop me a line, I’d love (and I’m sure others would too) to hear your thoughts.
Until next time, you remember to keep struttin your stuff!
